Downtown San Diego Elopement

Jessica and Codie's elopement here was exactly that.
Arriving at the San Diego Administration Building
Jessica and Codie's appointment to fill out their marriage paperwork was at 3pm, and I love that we documented every part of it — from the moment they arrived and waited inside, to sitting down together to fill out their paperwork officially. There is something so genuinely sweet and real about those mundane legal moments that most couples don't think to photograph. It tells the full story of the day, not just the pretty parts.
After the paperwork was done they had about 30 minutes before their ceremony room was ready — and we made the absolute most of it.
Interior Portraits — The Elevator, The Stairs, The Windows
The inside of the San Diego Administration Building is genuinely one of my favorite unexpected portrait locations in all of downtown San Diego. The architecture and interior design give you so much to work with — we used the elevator for some incredibly fun and editorial shots, the staircase for romantic and dramatic portraits, and the windows for beautiful natural light that made the whole space feel warm and alive.
Jessica's dress was absolutely perfect for this setting — short, sassy, and with the most adorable bow on the back. It had so much personality and it photographed beautifully against the clean lines and architectural details of the building. Every frame felt effortless because she was just completely herself in it.
The Ceremony — Quick, Legal, and Completely Perfect
The ceremony itself was about five minutes — and honestly? It was perfect. No fluff, no filler, just Jessica and Codie making it official in front of their 30 closest friends and family in the ceremony room. Sometimes the most meaningful moments are also the simplest ones, and watching them exchange vows surrounded by the people they love most in that beautiful room was genuinely moving despite how quickly it all happened.
The San Diego Administration Building also has an outdoor ceremony option which can be stunning — though it is worth noting that this space is sometimes blocked off for concerts or festivals happening nearby, so it is always worth confirming availability in advance if an outdoor ceremony is important to you.
Celebrating Outside and at Karina's Cantina
After the ceremony we headed outside for group photos with friends and family, and the exterior architecture of the Administration Building did not disappoint. The building itself is such a beautiful and photogenic backdrop — grand and elegant without feeling stuffy.
From there Jessica and Codie continued with portraits just the two of them, soaking in the newlywed energy in the middle of downtown San Diego. And then the whole group headed over to Karina's Cantina for a small and celebratory reception — the perfect way to cap off a fun, fast, and completely joyful elopement day.
