Hotel Del Coronado Wedding
There are wedding venues, and then there is the Hotel Del Coronado. One of the most iconic and beloved wedding destinations in all of Southern California, the Hotel Del sits right on the shores of Coronado Island with that unmistakable Victorian architecture and ocean backdrop that makes every single photo feel cinematic. Audrey and Trent's late fall wedding here was one of those days I will never forget — romantic, emotional, and absolutely stunning from start to finish.
Getting Ready at the Shore House
Audrey got ready in a suite at the Shore House, the Hotel Del's intimate luxury retreat just steps from the main property, and the energy in that room was everything you hope for on a wedding morning — excited, emotional, and full of love.
The morning kicked off exactly how it should — with champagne. Watching the bride and her girls pop a bottle and celebrate together before the day got into full swing is one of those moments that sets the tone for everything that follows. And of course, the iconic pajama photos on the bed — everyone piled together, laughing, completely in the moment before the reality of the day sets in. Those photos never get old and they always end up being some of a bride's favorites from the entire wedding.
Some of my favorite moments of the entire day happened before the ceremony even began. Watching Audrey's mom carefully zip up her dress and help her into her jewelry was such a sweet moment.
After getting into her dress Audrey shared a first look with her dad — just the two of them — followed by a separate reveal with her bridesmaids. Three completely different emotional moments, back to back, before she ever walked down the aisle.
The Details
Audrey's flat lay was a dream to photograph. Her invitation suite, vow books, rings, jewelry, shoes, and perfume were all carefully arranged — but the standout piece was a custom ring box embossed with "Mrs. Bassler." It is such a small detail but it says everything about how intentional and personal this wedding day was, and it photographed beautifully.
Private Vows Before the Ceremony
One of my favorite details of Audrey and Trent's day was their decision to do private vows before the ceremony. Rather than a first look, they chose to keep that visual moment of seeing each other for the aisle — but they still wanted to share their words privately before the rush of the ceremony. Standing just the two of them, reading their vows to each other before walking out to their guests, was such an intimate and emotional moment. If you're on the fence about a first look, private vows are a beautiful alternative that gives you a quiet moment together without giving anything away.
Vista Terrace Ceremony
Audrey and Trent said their "I dos" on the Vista Terrace and it was such a beautiful setting for a ceremony. With the Hotel Del's iconic red rooftop architecture framing every shot, the whole scene felt grand and romantic without trying too hard. White florals lined the aisle leading to a stunning arch adorned with matching blooms, and the light made everything feel warm, timeless, and intimate despite the grandeur of the venue around them.
No first look meant that moment Trent saw Audrey walking down the aisle was completely unscripted — and those are always the frames that make people cry.
Ocean Ballroom Reception
The reception moved into the Ocean Ballroom, and if you've never seen this space dressed for a wedding it is truly something special. Grand, luminous, and dripping in history — with white florals throughout and a live band keeping the dance floor going all night, the energy in that room was electric. There is something about live music at a wedding that just cannot be replicated, and Audrey and Trent's guests were on their feet all evening.
Sunset Portraits on Coronado
Before the reception got into full swing we slipped away for sunset couples portraits. Audrey and Trent were completely in their element — relaxed, in love, and totally unbothered by the camera — which made my job feel effortless.
Why the Hotel Del Coronado is a Dream Venue
Beyond the obvious visual drama of this venue, what makes the Hotel Del so special to photograph is the sheer variety it offers. In a single wedding day you can have intimate indoor moments, sweeping outdoor ceremony shots, grand ballroom receptions, and golden hour portraits — all without leaving the property. For a photographer it is an absolute playground, and for couples it means your gallery will feel rich, varied, and full of life.
If the Hotel Del Coronado is on your shortlist, stop debating and just do it. There is nowhere quite like it in San Diego.
